Abstract: Teenagers' sexual risk behaviour has not shown a decline. The impact of this behaviour is in the form of increasing teenage pregnancies in Banyumas in the last three years. The peer counsellor will be able to play an optimal role if supported by the parents’ part. Parents are still limited in the advice, effective communication, and support teenagers need. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of empowering families (parents) to increase adolescent assertive behaviour to prevent sexual risk behaviour. The research method used a pre experimental pre-post test design without a control group. Research samples are as many as 16 parents who have teenage children in the high-risk category. The intervention group was treated in the form of Focus Group Discussions (FGD), counselling, and communication practices for eight weeks, four times for 60 minutes. Data analysis using frequency distribution and the Wilcoxon test. The measurement of knowledge showed an increase in the acquisition value of each respondent after being given training from an average value of 59 to 68. There was a significant effect between parental treatment in communication and support for increasing assertive behaviour in adolescents (p is 0.001). Adolescents can behave assertively if supported by parenting, support, and family roles. Effective, two way, open communication between parents and teenagers will close the distance between parents and teenagers.
